Inflammation scintigraphy (using LeukoScan)

Purpose of the examination

In inflammation scintigraphy, white blood cells are labeled in order to find sources of infection in the body. This exam may be indicated for such issues as:

  • Osteomyelitis, bone or bone marrow inflammation (if previous diagnostic procedures were not successful)
  • Unexplained fever with unsuccessful previous diagnostics
  • Investigating infections in prosthetic blood vessels
  • Investigating inflammatory loosening of artificial joints
  • Endocarditis (heart valve inflammation)

Allow a total of 4 to 5 hours for the examination on the first day, and another hour for the scan on the following day.
