Bone scintigraphy (bone scan)

Purpose of the examination:

Bone scintigraphy provides images of bone remodeling processes.

This exam may be indicated for the following issues, among others:

  • Bone or joint inflammation (for example osteomyelitis, polyarthritis, psoriasis), Sudeck's disease
  • Pain due to skeletal causes 
  • Loosening an artificial joint (particularly hip implants)
  • diagnosis of fractures or contusions
  • Bone tissue death (aseptic bone necrosis – e.g. Perthe’s disease), bone vitality (for example after trauma or surgery)
  • bone metastases (for example in breast cancer or prostate cancer)
  • Primary bone tumors, Paget's disease

Please allow approximately 4 hours for the procedure.
